Dhaya Lakshminarayanan

Dhaya is a stand-up comic, storyteller, and TV host. She was part of San Francisco Sketchfest this year, 2013, in two shows, one stand-up comedy showcase and one comedic storytelling show. Last year, 2012, as part of Sketchfest, she performed storytelling with Marc Maron. In 2012, she was also a semifinalist at the Boston Comedy Festival.

In 2011, Dhaya co-produced a series of stand-up comedy shows in which comedians and audience members viewed the 2011 Presidential and Vice Presidential debates, while comedians wrote material, and then performed their newly written material immediately after the debates.

The shows attracted over 300 audience members as sold out or near sell outs.

Over the last three years, she has been a frequent comedic storyteller on NPR’s “Snap Judgment.” She co-produced two segments for the NPR national show and narrated one segment. She performed a live comedic story which aired on the radio show as well as on PBS. Two of her other comedic stories have aired on the show and she is considered a regular contributor.

In 2011 and 2010 she hosted the Emmy-award winning “High School Quiz Show” on PBS’s WGBH.

She has opened for comedians including Greg Proops, Anthony Jeselnik, Maz Jobrani, and Dick Gregory. She has also opened for Jello Biafra as part of an Occupy fundraiser to purchase and forgive debt.

She will be a part of the Women in Comedy Festival (Boston) in March 2013.
